We are a group of legal NGOs from across the UK who subscribe to a set of shared aims and beliefs who specialise in child law.

About us

Our Belief statement

We believe that the law relating to children is a specialist area of law and that lawyers representing children and those providing legal advice and support should be trained and updated in core skills and evolving practices. The Child Law Network wants to lead the way in making this a specialist area of law.

Aims and mission statement.

The aims of the Child Law Network UK are to:

  • Improve recognition and understanding of the specialist skills and competencies required by lawyers representing children and young people in any discipline

  • Foster collaboration and create a community amongst lawyers acting for children and organisations spanning different legal disciplines and jurisdictions in order to advance this as an area of legal specialism.

To focus on and enable these objectives to be met we will

  • Provide mutual support and share information, learning, challenges and best practice

  • Influence, advance reform to policy makers, lawyers, local and national decision makers.

  • Identify opportunities for strategic litigation and policy reform

  • Develop curriculum and provide support to entities delivering training on the core skills required to be a lawyer for children

  • Build a community by holding an annual gathering where we agree priorities and a plan of work for the year ahead.
